The Imperial Centre seeks to provided students of our greater community the opportunity to experience the arts and sciences. In the past year, theatre performances have expanded to 1 daytime performance offered to local students at no charge. Students have had the opportunity to see The Diary of Anne Frank, Oliver, A Christmas Story, and a Charlie Brown Christmas among others.

When Douglas Tappin’s I Dream was in the early stages of planning, it was clear this was an experience local students had to be included in. City of Rocky Mount staff, producers and cast worked to solidify 3 performances that would ┬áserving students from Nash Rocky Mount Schools, Rocky Mount Prep, and Edgecombe County Public Schools. Perhaps the best part was after the students witnessed broadway actors perform the musical in concert, they were able to ask questions. Questions ranged from “Why did you want to do this show?” to ” How did you make yourself cry?”
