Edgecombe County Birding

We will caravan to several areas of Edgecombe County looking for waterfowl and Gulls! The late winter period is good for large concentrations of Gulls(up to 5 species) in the fields, and swans, geese, and ducks at a couple of ponds east of Tarboro. Also seeing Bald Eagle is possible! Be sure to bring binoculars and a scope if you have one!

Location: Meet at the Museum Parking Lot.

Aurora Fossil Museum Trip

Looking for something fun to do on the Teacher Workday? We will explore the past at the Aurora Fossil Museum! Learn about fossils found in eastern NC, then dig for your own (weather permitting)! Transportation provided, wear close-toed shoes, bring a bag lunch and extra water bottle.

Location: Meet at the Imperial Centre; travel to Aurora, NC

Ages: 7-12

Date and Time: Monday, March 13, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Fee: $25.00 City Residents ($37.50 Non-Residents)

Registration: Registration and payment must be made by 5:00 pm Sunday, March 5.

KinderScience

Preschool-age students (ages 3-5) will explore a different topic each session through hands on activities, games, crafts and experiments. Classes meet every other Thursday morning 10:30-11:15am. This is a parent/child program, no pre-registration is required, however seating is limited.

Wild Foods

Discover edible plants that grow in our area and learn ways to prepare them. A tasty nature walk!

Ages: All

Fee: $1 per person

Owls

Study the secretive world of owls during this avian investigation! Discover what makes owls the ultimate nocturnal predator, explore their incredible adaptations, and learn to identify owls by call. Dig even deeper by dissecting real owl pellets to learn the identity of an owl’s midnight snack.

Whiz Bang Boom

Experiment, invent and discover! A hodge-podge of cool, fun and exciting hands-on activities and experiments! Use chemistry and physics to make things fly, pop, change and explode — all in the name of science!

Ages: 7-12

Date and Time: Monday-Friday, June 26-30, 1:00pm – 5:00pm

Fee: $70.00 City Residents ($105.00 Non-Residents)

Registration: Registration and payment must be made by 12:00 pm July 10.

CSI: Museum

Be a crime scene investigator and help us solve a mystery! We’ll analyze evidence, such as footprints, fingerprints, and ink stains, to solve a crime.

Ages: 7-12

Date and Time: Monday-Friday, July 17-21, 1:00pm – 5:00pm

Fee:  $70.00 City Residents ($105.00 Non-Residents)

Registration:  Registration and payment must be made by 12:00 pm June 19.

Registration Guidelines

Registration is required for all fee based classes, unless otherwise noted. Payment is required at time of registration. Students are not considered enrolled in a class until payment has been made.

  • Parks & Recreation Refund Policy

    Participants receive an 85% refund when they cancel a class that has not yet begun; a refund of 50% is made when a participant cancels within the first week of class; no refund is available when participant cancels after two class meetings.

Puppet Shows

The Junior Guild of Rocky Mount presents “Three Billy Goats Gruff” at the Children’s Museum & Science Center the 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoon of each month at 1:30 and 2:30 pm, February through April.
Dates: February 7 & 21, March 6 & 20, April 3 & 17.
