First Friday kicks off new exhibits

Kick off the month of February with an evening full of activities at the Imperial Centre for Arts and Sciences. Admission is free with lots of activities for the whole family. Enjoy live music in the art galleries, Six Smokin Bones food truck, show off your talent during No Shame Open Mic in the theater, activities in the Children’s Museum, planetarium shows and MORE!

February 3rd From 6-9 PM


  • Live Music: Accoustics by Denver Nixon 6:30-7:45 PM
  • FREE admission to the Children’s Museum and Planetarium
  • Local Vendors
  • Local food truck; Six Smokin’ Bones from 6-9 PM
  • We are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the City of Rocky Mount by offering a FREE Hot Dog combo to the first 300 attendees that receive a ticket.

Children’s Museum:

  • Live music from Tim and Susan Wells in the Children’s Museum
  • New exhibit: Backyard Adventures
  • American Wildlife Refuge featuring live raptors
  • NC Dept of Forestry
  • Kid’s activities
  • Planetariuum show at 7 pm & Lasershow at 8 pm in the Cummins Planetarium
  • Braswell Memorial Pop-Up Library
  • Wisdom Tooth Program
  • Puppet Shows at 6:15 and 6:45 PM (Junior Guild)

Art Center:

  • Program with Durham Jazz Renaissance Foundation: Wine & Champagne with Gumbo (proceeds to DJRF)
  • Photo Booth (Whoville)
  • Exhibits open to the public
  • Artists Lotus Blossom & Dreamweaver selling prints
  • New merchandise in the Gallery Shop
  • Gallery Sketching
