The summer art exhibitions are now open to the public. This summer, we have four new exhibits that are free to experience during our normal operating hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10am-5pm and Sunday’s 1pm-5pm. Visit us to see:
The National Juried Art Show (JAS): juried by Amiri Farris (May 3-August 18, 2019)
Interwoven: Elaine Fleck (May 3-August 11, 2019)
Daddy’s Home: Lamar Whidbee (May 10-August 18, 2019)
Art Center Staff Picks: Selections from the Permanent Collection (April 18-August 11, 2019)
In addition to these art exhibitions, we also have the Silver Arts Show on display through May 22nd and we will display the Robert MacKenzie ship collection from June 7-August 11. We have three kid-friendly, interactive areas: KENA Planks, A Life of Creativity, and our kid stage. We welcome groups and families to engage with the art exhibits and challenge themselves to be inspired and talk about art.
To celebrate the summer exhibitions opening to the public, we are hosting our Opening Reception on Wednesday, May 15 from 6:00-8:00pm in the Arts Center at the Imperial Centre. It is free and open to all. The reception includes refreshments, live music, and JAS award announcements at 6:30pm. The reception is co-hosted by the AKA Sorority, who will also team up with us for a Kid’s Day event in July (stay tuned for more information)!
The Arts Center will continue to host Yoga in the Galleries on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm. The class is open to anyone over the age of 16. It is only $5 per person, per class to participate! Our yoga instructor is Robin Sellers. Yoga is a wonderful way to practice relaxation and balance. It is a gentle workout and has many health benefits. Yoga in the Galleries takes place (you guessed it!) in the galleries, among the art.
There is also a wide variety of art summer camp options, great for all ages and interests. Try something new, or develop existing skills!
