Registration Guidelines

Registration is required for all fee based classes and workshops, unless otherwise noted. Payment is required at time of registration. Participants are not considered enrolled until payment has been made. Enroll online, or by calling 252-972-1266, or by visiting the Imperial Centre at 270 Gay Street.

Parks & Recreation Refund Policy:
Participants receive an 85% refund when canceling prior to a class/workshop start date; a refund of 50% is issued for cancellations within the first week of class; no refund is issued for cancellations after two class meetings.

Ongoing Programs

Yoga in the Galleries

Thursdays, June-August, 5:30–6:30pm
Relax after-hours among art! Bring your own yoga mat and be led by a certified yoga instructor, Amy Skaggs, for an hour-long program in the galleries. This program is continuous, so join us every Thursday. This class is perfect for beginners, intermediate, and advanced yogis.

Family Sundays

Every other Sunday, May 13–August 19, 2–4pm
Sundays are for families! Bring your family to the art gallery for an afternoon full of family-friendly activities. Drop into the gallery for art making, interactive play, gallery sketching, or go on your own exhibition tour! Ages 3 and up with accompanying adults.

Make Art: Drop-in Workshops

Every other Saturday, May 19-August 25, 11am–1pm (No class June 2 and 30)
Join us to experiment with different types of art! Travel around the Imperial Centre, observe sculpture, paintings, drawings, photographs, architecture, and many more artist-made objects, and then make your own! Registration is not required, drop-ins of age 6+ welcome. Limited to 25 participants. Instructor: Fenia Guilford

Mugs and Bowls: Clay Workshop

Saturdays, May 12 & 19, 12–4pm
Create functional clay wares for your kitchen! This 2-part workshop focuses on handbuilding techniques including pinch, coil, slab, and pattern making to build usable ceramics. Experiment with surface texture, design, and glaze and take home multiple unique and special treasures. All materials included. Perfect for beginners to advanced age 12+.

Intermediate Watercolor: Illustration

Saturdays, May 12-June 9 (no class 26), 2–4pm
Designed for students who have experience with basic watercolor techniques, this class takes you deeper into form, structure and expression. Continue the exploration of the medium and start to learn the arts of illustrating animals, foliage, and other objects. All materials provided or bring your own tools and sketchbook; no experience necessary. Ages 14+.

Lunch and Learn

Friday, June 8, 12–1pm
Bring a lunch and interact with artists! From playwrights, painters, and all artists in between, learn about process, discuss projects, and ask questions during an hour-long interactive gallery talk and demonstration. Open to all ages, all materials provided; no experience necessary.

Painting from Life

Designed for all levels, develop the skill of creating what you see! Students focus on building strong compositions through still life and figure study. Working in acrylic, investigate the potentials and problems of light and shade, color, composition and anatomy. All materials provided or bring your own tools and sketchbook; no experience necessary. Shaping Forms: Sculpture Workshop

Saturday, June 16, 9am–4pm
Through the magic of paper and pattern, transform flat shapes into three-dimensional art! Sneak peek into the mind of the artist’s and experiment with her process starting with paper patterns that become metal sculptures. Use provided patterns of triangles and rectangles to make small figurative works, dresses, and shoes, or create an original design. Age 9+
