Registration Guidelines

Registration is required for all fee based classes and workshops, unless otherwise noted. Payment is required at time of registration. Participants are not considered enrolled until payment has been made. Enroll online, or by calling 252-972-1266, or by visiting the Imperial Centre at 270 Gay Street.

Parks & Recreation Refund Policy:
Participants receive an 85% refund when canceling prior to a class/workshop start date; a refund of 50% is issued for cancellations within the first week of class; no refund is issued for cancellations after two class meetings.

Ongoing Programs

Make Art: Drop-in Workshops #5120

Every other Saturday October 6–December 15, 11am–1pm
Join us to experiment with different types of art! Travel around the Imperial Centre, observe sculpture, paintings, drawings, photographs, architecture, and many more artist-made objects, and then make your own! Registration is not required, drop-ins of age 6+ welcome. Limited to 25 participants.

Family Sundays #5121

Every other Sunday, September 30–December 23, 2–4pm
Sundays are for families! Bring your family to the art gallery for an afternoon full of family-friendly activities. Drop into the gallery for art making, interactive play, gallery sketching, or go on your own exhibition tour! Registration is not required, drop-ins of age 3 and up with accompanying adults welcome.

Lunch and Learn

Selected Fridays, 12–1pm
Bring a lunch and interact with artists! From painters, to photographers and all artists in between, learn about process, discuss projects, and ask questions during an hour-long interactive gallery talk and demonstration. Open to all ages, all materials provided; no experience necessary. Registration is suggested by the Wednesday before each program.

Watercolor Workshop #5122

Thursdays, September 13 & 20, 10:30am–12:30pm
Join the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences to learn basic techniques of painting with watercolors. Perfect for beginners, play and explore with color, bushes, and how to mix, blend and apply this exciting art medium. All materials provided; no experience necessary. Draw Buildings! Family Workshop #5123

Saturday, October 6, 1pm–4pm
Discover the special architecture inside and out of the Imperial Centre! Learn and practice fundamentals of drawing and create your own observational artworks.

Mugs and Bowls #5124

Saturdays, October 6 & 13, 12–4pm
Create functional clay wares for your kitchen! This 2-part workshop focuses on handbuilding techniques including pinch, coil, slab, and pattern making to build usable ceramics. Experiment with surface texture, design, and glaze and take home multiple unique and special treasures. All materials provided; no experience necessary. Age 12+. Registration is required by October 3. Limited to 20 participants.

Perfect for the complete beginner to learn the basics of clay. Practice wedging, centering, trimming, and glazing. All are welcome to work at their own pace and make a variety of cylinders and bowls.
