Registration Guidelines

Registration is required for all fee based classes and workshops, unless otherwise noted. Payment is required at time of registration. Participants are not considered enrolled until payment has been made. Enroll online, or by calling 252-972-1266, or by visiting the Imperial Centre at 270 Gay Street.

Parks & Recreation Refund Policy:
Participants receive an 85% refund when canceling prior to a class/workshop start date; a refund of 50% is issued for cancellations within the first week of class; no refund is issued for cancellations after two class meetings.

Drop-In Programs

Yoga in the Galleries

Every Tuesday, 5:30-6:30pm *Class will not be held  on July 2*
Join us every Tuesday for an after-hours yoga experience among the art exhibits. Bring your yoga mat and get ready to unwind. Registration is not required, drop-ins of age 15+ welcome. Limited to 20 participants.

Family Sundays

Every Sunday, June 9-August 18, 2–4pm
Sundays are for families! Bring your family to the art gallery for an afternoon full of family-friendly activities. Drop into the gallery for art making, interactive play, gallery sketching, or go on your own exhibition tour! Registration is not required, drop-ins of age 3 and up with accompanying adults welcome.

Talk and Draw

Wednesdays, June 5 & August 7, 12-1pm
Join an artist and lecturer to explore art in two different ways. First, listen to a brief talk then respond by making your own work in this short, artist-led drawing session. All materials are provided.
Pre-registration is suggested, drop-ins welcome. Limited to 25 participants.

Mommy+Me Arts

Fridays, July 12-August 8, 10:30-11:30am
Ages 2 to 8
Children and caregivers explore a variety of art materials, experience new textures, improve fine motor skills, and enjoy being creative in a group setting. Each lesson is planned to expose the children to an element of art, new art material, and basic art skills. All materials are provided.
Pre-registration is suggested, drop-ins welcome. Limited to 15 participants.

Zumba

Saturdays, June 1–July 6 (no class June 8), 9:30–11am
Dance, dance, dance! Join us for this total workout, combining all elements of fitness- cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, while boosting your energy! Perform movements inspired by hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, and mambo to upbeat rhythms. No prior dance experience is necessary. Age 15+. Registration is suggested by the Wednesday prior to each class. Limited to 20 participants.

Ballet Fit Fusion

Saturdays, June 1–July 6 (no class June 8), 12–1pm
Join us for out new ballet-based workout that concentrates on core stability, strength, and balance. This class utilizes the fundamentals of ballet to achieve a total body workout. Most classes are practiced in the center of the floor and at the barre. No prior experience is necessary. Age 15+. Registration is suggested by the Wednesday prior to each class. Limited to 20 participants.

Painting Watercolor: Family Workshop

Saturday, June 15, 12–3pm
Study the language of watercolor painting! Explore techniques, materials, and the elements of art to build a foundational understanding of the medium and create a contemporary still life. All materials provided or bring your own tools and sketchbook. Age 5+. No prior experience needed. Registration is required by June 12. Limited to 20 participants.

Clay Relief Sculpture Workshop

Saturday, June 22 and 29, 12–3pm
Experiment with clay sculpture during this two-day workshop! Create your own clay tiles using additive and subtractive techniques, special tools, and color. Age 10+. All materials included. No prior experience needed. Registration is required by June 19. Limited to 20 participants.

Beginning Calligraphy

Saturday, July 20, 12–3pm
Experiment with the art of calligraphy! Learn how to use traditional tools, get started with the basic practice strokes, and take home a wonderful piece of art. All materials provided; no experience necessary. Age 14+. All materials included. No prior experience needed. Registration is required by June 19.

Making Multiples: Printmaking Workshop

Saturday, August 10, 9am–12pm
Experiment with the basics of printing through a hands-on exploration of process, tools, and color. Learn about monoprint and linocut techniques. Leave this 1-day workshop with multiple pieces of artwork, a carved plate, and knowledge of how to print at home! All materials provided; no experience necessary. Age 15+. Register by August 7.

Wheel Throwing

Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 4–27, 9am–12pm
Perfect for the complete beginner to learn the basics of clay. Practice wedging, centering, trimming, and glazing. All are welcome to work at their own pace and make a variety of cylinders and bowls. All materials provided; no experience necessary. Age 13+. Registration is required by June 2. Limited to 12 participants.

Hip-Hop

Thursdays, June 6–27, 6:45–8:30pm
This high-energy class infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. No prior experience is necessary. Age 14+. Registration is required by June 3. Limited to 20 participants.

Youth Ballet

Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 18–July 11 (no class 7/4), 5–6:30pm
For beginner dancers ready to learn the basics of ballet. Build off the five positions, master plié variations and experiment with creative movement at both barre and center floor. No prior experience is necessary. Age 4–11. Registration is required by June 14. Limited to 20 participants.
