Sculpture Salmagundi

Thank you for joining us to experience Sculpture Salmagundi XXIV (2020-2021) digitally. This digital exhibition also includes a virtual reception, which features: comments from our Juror (Lisa Pearce) on each of the sculptures, announcement from the Juror of Best in Show, brief videos featuring each of our five artists, options on ways you can visit each sculpture in person, and a photo gallery of the sculptures. We hope you will enjoy this digital exhibition and share it widely with your students, friends, family, and social media platforms.

Salmagundi means “a heterogeneous mixture or potpourri,” which is why we strive to bring a variety of artists, materials, and ideas together for this outdoor sculpture exhibition. 2020 has been a year of challenges and it seems that almost every aspect of life has been touched with change. Although our Sculpture Salmagundi show is smaller than usual, it was extremely important to the Arts Center to make sure we brought this outdoor exhibition to Rocky Mount. Not only is it a (now) 24-year tradition, but this art is accessible and safe for the masses to visit given that it is outdoors.

This year, we welcome five new sculptures to Rocky Mount. Of these, two of the artists are new to Salmagundi and we were so excited to work with them and invite them all into our community! The sculptures are located at: the Senior Center, the Train Station, the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences, the Sports Complex, and Sunset Park. Please enjoy!

Lisa F. Pearce has been teaching art in art centers, museums, and at the college level since 1993. She holds an MFA in Sculpture with a MEd in Art Education from UNC Greensboro with further studies at Penland School of Crafts, Bullseye Glass, and the Corning Museum of Glass. Her artwork primarily encompasses cast or fused glass, ceramics, and metal work as well as other media. She has created semi to permanent public artwork for the NC Department of Public Instruction, auditory and tactile art for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind, Olds Elementary and Meredith College. In her studio classes she brings unique techniques and media that challenge and empower the student’s sense of self as a creative and critical thinker. She is an exhibiting mixed media artist and an artist member of Artspace and VAE Raleigh and has held numerous board positions with the NC Art Education Association and as a past president and current member of Tri State Sculptors.
