Community Theatre

The Arts Center’s community theatre has been a part of the Rocky Mount community for more than 50 years. The Theatre offers a wide variety of productions, including comedies, dramas, musicals, and children’s theatre, and relies on volunteers to continue its tradition of success.

Volunteers are needed for all aspects of production including acting, set construction and painting, sewing and altering of costumes, props acquisition, stage management, and technical operations. For information on how you can be part of the community theatre please call 252-972-1266.

Samuel Beckett Radio Play Series

Announcing Auditions for the 2020 Samuel Beckett Radio Play Series!

We are excited to announce auditions for six radio plays, written by Samuel Beckett, to air via livestream over the course of our 2020 Fall Season. We are seeking women and men ages 18+ for roles in all six plays.

To audition, please email Brooke Edwards at brooke.edwards@rockymountnc.gov if you would like schedule an appointment. Auditions will be held by appointment only on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 between 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

Our livestream schedule for this series will be as follows:

  • Embers, October 8th
  • Words and Music, October 15th
  • Rough for Radio I, October 29th
  • Rough for Radio II, November 5th
  • Cascando, November 12th

LIVE from the Imperial Centre

Call for Talent!
Every week we are looking for performers for Friday’s LIVE From The Imperial Centre livestream. Singers, Musicians, Stand Up, Monologues, Dancers, and short plays are all welcome!

Please contact Brooke Edwards at brooke.edwards@rockymountnc.gov if you would like to participate. We will meet beginning at 4:00 PM on stage to rehearse each Friday before performing live at 6:00 PM.

The 3rd Annual Local Playwrights Staged Reading Series

Announcing the 3rd Annual Local Playwrights Staged Reading Series

The Imperial Centre Theatre will present the 3rd Annual Local Playwrights Staged Reading Series this fall. Local playwrights in the Eastern North Carolina region are asked to submit their original works, i.e. Full Length or One-Act Plays, to be read and judged by committee. The chosen works will be given staged readings in the Imperial Centre Theatre during our regularly scheduled Friday LIVE from the Imperial Centre livestreams on Friday, September 18th and Friday, October 9th.

Call for Plays!
This series is open to all playwrights in the Eastern North Carolina region. All entries must be original dramatic works. We accept full-length, one-act, and ten-minute plays. Please limit full-length plays to 90 pages or less. We will not accept musicals. Submissions will be accepted July 15, 2020 through September 15, 2020. Digital submissions may be made by emailing manuscripts to brooke.edwards@rockymountnc.gov. Please note, we are only accepting digital submissions this year.

Call for Actors!
Local actors wanting to participate in the staged readings may contact Brooke Edwards by email at brooke.edwards@rockymountnc.gov. Roles will be determined by the selected manuscripts.
